Resources
The Pneumococcal Vaccination Atlas has used information from different organisations. Each resource helps to provide information about the current state of pneumococcal vaccination coverage, funding, and recommendations in Europe across three key groups: infants, at-risk groups, and older adults.
Methodology
Data has been collected through a combination of desk research and analysis of official national sources. Information was verified against the most recent guidance from national immunisation programmes, public health institutes, and international bodies such as the World Health Organization and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
Where data is unavailable or unclear, we have noted gaps as ‘no data’. The Atlas presents the most recent data wave (2025), allowing comparison with the previous wave (2023) to highlight progress, policy changes, and remaining challenges in pneumococcal prevention and vaccine access.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) ‘Vaccine Scheduler’ provides information on the vaccine schedules in all countries in the EU/EEA.
The World Health Organization (WHO) Immunization Data portal provides information on recommendations and coverage for a range of life course immunisation programmes.
VIEW-hub is an online, interactive, map-based platform for visualizing data on vaccine use and impact. It has been produced by the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC).
Our World in Data is a scientific online publication that focuses on issues such as disease, climate change, and existential risks.
